Serena Williams Wins Third Wimbledon Ladies' Crown
Saturday July 04, 2009 10:51:00 EDT
(RTTNews) - For the second year in a row, the ladies' finals at Wimbledon had all the intensity of an exhibition match, as Serena Williams thumped sister Venus Williams 7-6, 6-2 for her third singles title at the All England Club.
For Serena, it was her first singles title at Wimbledon in six years, revenging last year's finals defeat at the hands of her older sister.
With the novelty of an all-Williams final having long worn off, Saturday's sister act lacked any of the intrigue characteristic of a thrilling fortnight at Wimbledon.
The two looked almost embarrassed to win points, not wanting to upstage the other sister.
Eventually, Serena's service game won out, forcing Venus into a number of key unforced errors at crucial stages of the match.
