ISPAI Petitions CCI On Telephony
Tuesday November 03, 2009 06:28:00 EST
(RTTNews) - The Internet Service Providers Association of India or ISPAI has petitioned the Competition Commission of India or CCI over the continuing delay by the Department of Telecommunication or DOT in responding to recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI permitting Internet Service Providers or ISPs to use telephone lines to make internet telephony calls.
It alleged that the delay on the part of the government in opening internet telephony would favor mobile operators and prevent fair competition.
Presently, the Indian government does not permit internet telephony calls to terminate on phone lines. The internet telephony services provided by Google, Skype, Yahoo and MSN in the country are considered illegal.
